The Beacon on Brighton Street, a high profile development site, is celebrating after KFC chose the location as the home for its latest outlet. The Beacon’s excellent location on a key arterial route into Hull City Centre, adjacent to the A63 with easy links to the Junction retail park, Asda and Hessle road, is major reason that the KFC chain chose The Beacon above an array of other possible locations.

    KFC shines at The Beacon

Local developers Horncastle, who own The Beacon, have agreed a deal to sell a part of the site for a KFC drive thru restaurant. With planning permission now confirmed, KFC contractors are due to start work on site early in Spring this year with plans to open the restaurant in the Autumn 2011.

Adam Mobley, Partner of WSB Property Consultants said, “The south west area of Hull has been a high priority requirement for KFC over the last few years and The Beacon ticks all the boxes in terms of location and accessibility. KFC continues to invest in the Hull region who will invest £1.4m initially in this project and will create many future jobs in the process."

Following a recent rebranding, from Merchant’s Quay to The Beacon, and a new focus on the site, the development location has attracted significant interest. This is despite the current challenges faced by the property market and it’s anticipated that KFC will just be the first of many new developments on the site with the promise of further announcements in the coming months.

Ian Hodges, Director of the Horncastle Group said, "We’re delighted to have signed a deal with KFC at The Beacon. It's a perfect location on a main route into the city centre with space that can be tailored to businesses needs and it’s great to see that major chains like KFC can see that too. At Horncastle we are always continuing to develop and improve all of our sites and are continually talking to new businesses about relocating as we can adapt our spaces to their needs, so we hope to announce further deals in the New Year."

Garness Jones are acting agents for the site and Director Dave Garness said, “Introducing a worldwide brand like KFC onto The Beacon is a fantastic start for this development. It reflects the strength of the location and confidence in the developer to build up a scheme around this first entrant. With discussions already underway with other businesses and further deals in the pipeline, it looks set to be an exciting 2011 at The Beacon!”

Works began on site in May this year to construct infrastructure linking the existing Swift caravan manufacturing plant to the nearby A1079. The works included upgrades to three off site junctions, the construction of a new roundabout on the A1079 and an internal access road to provide a new entrance to the factory site. Horncastle became involved in plans for the development in 1999 and have provided project management to Swift since then to obtain all the consents and liaison with the authorities and local people.

The project has had many challenges to overcome and the team has worked closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and national agencies. At the beginning of this year with the planning permission in place Swift appointed Horncastle as project coordinator to assemble a delivery team and to construct all infrastructures.

The completion of the works is a significant milestone for local people who have been campaigning for improvements to the local highways network to ease congestion.

Swift who are one of the largest manufacturers of caravans in the UK are now completing remodelling works within the factory site prior to the new access being brought in to use at the beginning of 2011.

As sponsors of The Princes’ Trust, Andrew and Carole Horncastle attended the Celebrate Success Awards in Leeds on 11th November on behalf of Horncastle Group Plc.

Last year alone, The Princes’ Trust helped 3,500 disadvantaged young people across Yorkshire and The Humber giving them the confidence and skills to get a job. More than three in four of these young people moved into work, training or education.

Andrew said: “It was a special night and when you witness the joy of the young people who have succeeded with help from the Trust it reinforces the life changing role your work brings and the pleasure it brings to be able to help. It was also poignant to see a number of young people from Hull and the surrounding area celebrating success. All the more reason why, in my view, the city should recognise what the Trust can do”.
