The new £10 million Premier Inn hotel in Hull has now reached practical completion and has been handed over to the developers, Pure Urban, by the main contractors, Multibuild.
The hotel is expected to create about 30 full time equivalent jobs and is due to be opened in the next few weeks by Premier Inn, which is part of the Whitbread group.
Andrew Horncastle, of Pure Urban consortium partners Horncastle PLC, said: "This is a landmark building for Hull and at 13 storeys is one of the tallest buildings in the city, offering superb views from its high-level restaurant. We are delighted that we have been able to bring this important project to fruition despite the very difficult economic climate."
"One of the key attractions for Premier Inn in deciding to operate this hotel is that it is close to the city centre and to The Deep, so the hotel will be able to attract business trade during the week and tourists at weekends," he added.
The European Regional Development Fund has supported development of the 136-bedroom hotel, which is on Tower Street, next to Myton Bridge.
Innovative techniques used in the hotel’s construction included prefitted bedroom modules which were designed in the UK and manufactured in China. Because all electrics, plumbing and sanitaryware had already been factory fitted, all that was required internally after they were lifted into position was decoration, floor coverings and furniture.
The hotel has been combined with a £4 million, 308-space multi storey car park also developed by Pure Urban and constructed by Multibuild.
John Holmes, Chief Executive of Hull Forward, said: “It's great to see the new hotel reaching practical completion and we look forward to its opening. It has been a pleasure to work with Pure Urban on this project and it's pleasing to see the vision become a reality, adding a much needed new hotel to Hull's offer."
"The hotel offers spectacular views from its bar and restaurant as well as its bedrooms and I'm sure it will benefit the city's business base as well as Hull's tourism offer. Its close proximity to The Deep as well as the iconic new River Hull Footbridge, which will be opened early next year, offer clear benefits, and we will be working with the partners involved to maximise the opportunities presented by this new development," he added.
Mike Peden, Chief Executive of Multibuild, said; “We are extremely proud to have worked with Pure Urban on such an exciting development. The successful completion of this extremely challenging project is a testament to everyone involved."
The Premier Inn hotel has been developed by the Pure Urban consortium of Horncastle PLC, Scruton & Co (Builders) Ltd and Venture Business Parks Ltd.
